Where possible samples should be ground to a particle size of 0.5mm to ensure efficient extraction of the sample and good sample homogeneity. For samples which grinding is not an option some other means of homogenising the sample should be carried out, and it may be necessary to use a blending extraction rather than the standard shaking one.
